I've been a professional shoemaker for many years and own my own shoe shop, so I know a thing or two about how shoes are made. There are shoes that look good but feel terrible. And there are shoes that are pleasant to the touch, but take last place in terms of appearance. Then there are those that seem elusive, which, like Cinderella's slippers, are beautifully finished and fit perfectly. These SAS navigators are the holy grail of footwear (at least for me). The leather is soft and supple, but strong enough to hold its shape. The insole ensures a flat, stable footing (I have narrow feet, so this is an important criterion for me). The sole is non-slip and leaves no traces. It has a good feel and the pattern does not pick up dirt, which is very good quality. The back collar is soft and comfortable and the leather jumpsuit is holding up well so far. In fact, the leather itself has to be one of the main selling points as it is thicker and of higher quality than what I am used to in modern shoes. Even the elastic is a high-quality material that allows for maximum stretch to put the shoes on, but allows the elastic to retract fully without creating the dreaded "tight elastic ripple" at the top. Personally, I subject my shoes to pretty harsh conditions in my shop. . Lots of sawdust, some glue and sometimes splashes of paint. These shoes wash VERY well. The finish on them is very durable and top notch. The only thing I missed was a relatively cheap insole. However, this seems to be the industry standard with the idea that it can and is easily replaced with whatever aftermarket insole the wearer prefers. Caveat: I tried putting a full-length sockliner under the original sole for extra cushioning, but it took up too much room in the shoe and lifted the heel too high into the heel pocket. I ended up replacing the original insoles with new ones that support my foot shape perfectly. Note: Because this is a mid-length elastic sole, using a thick orthopedic insole in this shoe is likely to cause excessive wear on the foot. the envelope goes as far as it will fit. It's probably best to stick with lace-up shoes if orthotics are needed. Overall this is one of the best shoes on the market. SAS uses high quality materials and applies thoughtful craftsmanship in S
