and work your way up to find the best position for your pick

It can be tricky to use but is much more accurate than the standard tip that comes with my well station was delivered. If you're used to a different tip, just start with a lower temperature and work your way up to find the best position for your device. On the Weller WLC100 40W Soldering Station: 1- Make sure your new tip is in place 2- To heat up the tip, turn on the station and turn the knob 2.5. If you want to heat up the tip quickly you can set the knob to a maximum of 10 seconds and then turn it down to 2.53 - 2.5 I find a good resting temperature as it is below the temperature needed to actually melt the solder. 4- When I'm ready to solder, I turn the knob to 3.2-3.4. If I want to be precise and melt very little solder I set it to 3.2. If I need to heat a large area, I usually turn it up a bit more. Good advice. Be sure to tin the tip before use. To do this, the solder is melted onto the tip and completely covered. This prevents tip corrosion and promotes heat transfer (trust me, it's a noticeable effect). I fill the tip several times an hour (mostly while keeping it in the holder).
