I hate that it doesn't come with the weird square battery. No setting needs to be installed. Just turn it on. If you put the car in front of the diamond, you will get an ad. When placed against ANY metal (including a mailbox etc.) it will beep and turn red as if it were a diamond as the instructions say. I don't know why some of these reviewers don't take the time to read the instructions. Serious?! This is simply because it is a metal that is as cheap as a real diamond. So if you're testing small diamonds, make sure they're resting against the top of the diamond and not the side metal protrusions that hold the diamonds themselves. Also, I tested it with cubic zirconia diamonds and it was green with no beeps. I tested it with Moissanite and it was orange, no beep. A very easy to use tool but confusing!
