Don't understand.: Batteries and Chargers

So I got this item this morning, everything set up and hooked up, and then I plugged in my PS3 controller and lo and behold they don't connect. So I tried that with my old controller and it didn't work either, so I looked at the charging port on my controller and it got bent, so now I can't even use that controller, now it's junk. Glad I bought 2 more controllers. Def is back.
