When my eight year old Emerson microwave started sparking and appeared to open a new portal to another dimension, I was concerned it was time to throw it out and get a new one to buy. Well, after a little research on YouTube, I found out that this is what happens when that piece of paper-thick cardboard (the one you've always wondered what it does) gets too soaked in grease and oil and starts going into the engine to seep other side. This part is a protective barrier for the engine, preventing it from getting dirty or wet. If the engine gets wet, dirt will conduct electricity and cause sparks. It's VERY dangerous, but don't worry, all you have to do is order those mica sheets. Then take the dirty old sheet out of the microwave and trace it onto the new sheet of mica with a pencil. Cut it out with scissors and then paste it where the old one used to be. That's all! You'll save hundreds of dollars on a new microwave and also prevent another piece of electronics from ending up in the landfill. Since my original mica sheet lasted eight years, this set of four sheets should last longer than you can imagine!
