Works great but too fast

I only have a 6.5 gallon tank that uses water too quickly. The tank is almost half empty and I don't have the ability to clean up the sand nearly as much as I need to. I either need to find a control valve to slow the water flow or a smaller siphon that doesn't suck the water in as quickly.
