Review on KOOTION Portable External 120GB USB C by Tommy Willis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good option for backing up/transferring files

Not big, not super fast, but very convenient and affordable. If you need something ultra light, fairly fast and with moderate storage, this is for you. It's a little better than your standard flash drive. READ SPEED: - I've measured read speed on Crystal Disk Mark at around 450MB/s with USB 3.0 connected, which is likely to maximize USB 3.0 throughput. WRITE SPEED: - The write speed I measured was a bit slower, around 250MB/s over USB 3.0, so it's pretty cheap what kind of NAND they use for this SSD. But that's understandable given the price. PORTABILITY/ASSEMBLY: - It is lightweight and cheap. It definitely won't win awards for durability. It probably weighs less than a pack of gum, but it's quite small. If you're familiar with m.2 drives, this enclosure is larger on all sides than a 2280 m.2 flash drive. IS IT SUITABLE FOR YOU? If you constantly use USB flash drives to transfer data to other devices and are fed up with slow data transfer speeds, this drive is perfect for you. The average flash drive has a read/write speed of around 100MB/s, depending on the quality. Some are faster, but most are in that range or slower. When writing (copying files) to this drive, it should be a little over twice as fast as these flash drives; and when reading (copying files) it should be about 4-5 times faster. If you like it I would recommend it. I wouldn't recommend it as an external drive due to the small capacity and poor build quality. It doesn't seem sturdy enough to be used as a daily driver. I think it's better for transferring files between devices or backing up your music collection or other important files - as long as they're not too big. Windows 10 assumes it's around 128MB, which fills up pretty quickly with games or videos. However, if you only store music, photos or text files, there is plenty of storage space. Overall, this is a good external SSD for the price. It's definitely an improvement over a regular USB drive and the price is very good. I have reasoned for this between 4 and 5 stars and if Revain allowed halves I would give it 4.5. However, I gave it one star due to the cheap build quality and slower write speed. However, I still recommend it if it suits your needs. It seems to be good value for money and a good option for light to medium storage.
