I was very surprised to see the quality of the fabric. It's really thick and feels comfortable. It was also very bright and dynamic. First impression, very happy with the purchase. My son is almost 8 and is on your side but he is tall. I was able to get him a medium. The drawstrings of the pants are adjustable
