Review on Monoprice 106878 Channel Passive BALUN by Marquel Floyd

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Why use bulky CCTV cables when you can use Cat5 Ethernet?

I ran them a 130ft multi segment run from a very old Cat5 to an external camera on a 40ft antenna mast. Using standard CCTV cable wasn't an option for this setup, but with these baluns I was able to get everything working on my existing Cat5 Ethernet segment. They work great as another reviewer pointed out, they are passive and require no power. You MUST make sure you understand how your Ethernet segments are connected before applying power. It is very clearly stated on the back of the packaging that a TIA/EIA 568B pin is required for proper operation. If you mismap the Ethernet segments, you can power the video side or cause a 12VDC short. Follow the instructions on the back of the box and you will be very happy with this product in places where you don't want to run CCTV (BNC + 12VDC) cables.
