Description of Monoprice 106878 Channel Passive BALUN

This pair of single channel passive video baluns will carry video and power over cat5 giving you the ability to utilize straight network cables to connect your cameras. Simply connect the BNC ends to your camera and your recording device or display connect the DC ends to a Power Supply and the Camera then connect your network cable through the RJ45 jacks. Average conditions allow transmission up to 1 000 ft. On longer runs video quality might be slightly reduced. Country of Origin:China

These units tend not to hold up over time. .

These devices typically do not work over time. I used two of these with category 5 cable to watch my horses in their paddocks and used duct tape to insulate them from the weather. One unit only lasted about two years, while the other appears to have died just under three years ago. This time I'm looking for a better product.

Great BALLOONS for the price.

Great baluns for the price. In case you don't already know, this device allows you to transmit power and video from a BNC source to an Ethernet network. There is no conversion, so the device is PASSIVE and requires no additional power. This is a great alternative to running dedicated BNC cables as you are future proof (you can later convert the signal to high resolution IP cameras) AND significantly reduce noise over longer distances (50+ feet). Why use bulky CCTV cables when you can use Cat5 Ethernet?

I ran them a 130ft multi segment run from a very old Cat5 to an external camera on a 40ft antenna mast. Using standard CCTV cable wasn't an option for this setup, but with these baluns I was able to get everything working on my existing Cat5 Ethernet segment. They work great as another reviewer pointed out, they are passive and require no power. You MUST make sure you understand how your Ethernet segments are connected before applying power.
