I'm new to journaling and these were the first stencils I bought. I assume the templates are only for very small quill pens because I can't even fit a sharp pencil point in them. I've tried coloring it in with a marker and see if I can get the design but to no avail. I wasn't planning on using small pens but it looks like most stencils are so as far as I know this isn't a problem with the product. The templates come in a variety of designs and are numbered above as you assemble kits. Another thing I noticed was that the stencils were merging with the paper making it hard for me to see.
