This lens was purchased as an exact replacement for the lens that came with my mother's Nikon D50. Somehow she or one of my sisters broke off part of the original to keep it from sticking to the camera so I found this lens for her. It's not the fastest, but the images are sharp and clear. 28-80mm is a good range for versatility at family gatherings or in situations where you need to take a lot of shots at different settings and don't have time to switch lenses. It's definitely worth the $60 (including shipping) unless you do high-end professional work or you just have a discerning eye, in which case you wouldn't be reading this post anyway, you'd be missing out on this lens altogether . . All in all, for what it is, it's definitely worth the money. If you want something faster, look for f/2.8 or less. If you see 2 digits after f/, it means it's variable and you'll lose speed if you zoom in a bit. The lens I highly recommend is the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8. It's a fixed lens, meaning you can't zoom, but you can take nice pictures once you get used to it.
