Review on Versatile HANMATEK HM305 Switching Variable Control by Johnny Bloomer

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The cables supplied are FIRE HAZARD, otherwise OK

The cables supplied are assumed to be suitable for the output power. Not here. Cables are cheap and dangerous with a maximum current of 10A! My positive wire started to melt. Not only are they a fire hazard, but they also cause a large voltage drop at 10A (about 1V in my case, or a resistance of about 0.1 ohms). It is a pity that the company sends cables that are not suitable for the 10A current supplied. Swap out the cables for a few bucks and the device will be fine. My replacement lines only get about 12 degrees Fahrenheit. Normal cables shouldn't get too hot at 10 A. If your cables get hotter than 15 degrees Fahrenheit (9 degrees Celsius), replace them! (I've noticed that at least one 5 star rating says the cables get hot, so disabling the output without turning off the unit was helpful to keep them cool. The cables shouldn't be too short at 10A get hot! If your wires get hot, replace them! Again. Replace them! With any luck, the hot wires will melt or burn your fingers a little. If you're not lucky, you could start a fire.) I might buy again, but when the company performs so obviously, how can they be trusted? If the leads were good I would give the device maybe 4 or 5 stars. (I think I could have read the less than five star reviews before purchasing because I ordered extra cables as part of the order, but when I started to take full advantage of it the first time, I didn't think about adding the cabling change.)
