Review on Axxess Interface AFDI 5V Ford Step by Jose Cruz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This product is required for premium Ford audio systems.

I have a 2003 Ford Escape with a premium Mach audio system (6 disc, 2 din stereo with amplifier). I recently wanted to remove the factory radio to install an aftermarket head unit to get an aux and USB slot for playing music. I bought the matching Metra wiring harness and hooked everything up. The bad news Every time I started the car, there was a loud bang from the speakers. I did a little research to find out that the earliest Ford vehicles with premium OEM amp systems included a 5 volt amp instead of the 12 volt that most modern aftermarket head units offer. Whenever the car was turned on, the 12 volts would overload the amps with initial power, and in turn, cause a loud bang. Once installed, this product will COMPLETELY eliminate popping noise with minimal installation effort if you know what you are doing. When this product arrived I quickly noticed that it didn't look quite like the product pictured. It was better. To my surprise, the product that came out came with color-coded wires, making this step extremely easy to install. The AFDI-5v comes with three wires and a small voltage converter. Wire colors are as follows: 1. Blue/White = Connect the wire to the secondary radio amplifier, power on the wire (it will most likely be another blue/white wire)2. Black = This is ground and should be connected to chassis ground in harness3. Blue/Red = Connect to your car's amp turn-on wire (You can find this wire in your car's wiring harness, most likely it is blue/white) * Make sure to install this product before fully connecting the aftermarket head unit to the wiring harness of your car Otherwise you will have to cut and re-solder some wires. It's okay, but it's an extra step.
