This is for regular chain fans. I wanted to use this with my ceiling fan in my living room because it's a newer style that has a remote control, but unfortunately I can't use this remote because I have a smart switch. Since I have this smart switch that can't control fan speed, I was hoping I could use it to control speed and turn on/off by voice. Unfortunately I can't use it with this as it is specifically for ceiling fans with old school circuits. I was able to use it in my son's bedroom to control his fan. It works and it's very easy to flip the old switch to this one. Just make sure you turn off the switch that controls the switch you need to turn off.
