This allows me to capture directly from a running application from my Firestick in Full HD. The only issue I had was that you have to turn off the power when plugging in or unplugging your USB device or HDMI cables as this could damage the electronics in the box. So, of course, if you turn off the power, you'll need to reconnect the Firestick to your TV. This is an aluminum box and it gets very hot during use, I can fit a small fan to blow it around. You're right, you need to do this on Western Digital drives for some reason. I had a hell of a time figuring out that the drive was set up as a GPT drive and it had to be an MBR drive to work with the box. As soon as I changed it to this it saw the drive and works fine with it. You'll also need to repartition the included flash drive before you can write to it, just like an MBR drive.
