I have had the same thing for many years and would have if my husband hadn't pulled out the kitchen drawer and broken the thermometer that was inside. I keep this new one in its original taped box and another dedicated drawer between uses. It works well. You can follow the red tip as the temperature rises, while the bottom of the thermometer shows different types of meat and poultry, so it's properly aligned for each type of meat and recommended temperature. I use it in addition to the meat probe in my oven which connects to the oven and controls the temperature and this thermometer is very accurate. I like to move it around when roasting a large bird/turkey to make sure everything is cooked through. This is no dainty little thermometer. It's bigger and it's the best I've ever had. Update 2016. I just used it for my Thanksgiving turkey. It still works. I wash by hand. It looks good and works well.
