When it comes to buying electronics, I'm one of those consumers who do too much research before making a decision. Revain's customer rating system makes this process much easier, but with an item like an iPod docking station, there are so many options that it can be difficult to decide on one. After a long search for a powerful docking station with great sound, I almost resigned myself to just going for "Bose". However, I had a SoundDock I and wasn't as blown away by the sounds as many others. Also, I think the Bose SoundDock style is a bit dated at this point. The Philips DS9/27 is an excellent product in every respect. Time for form factor development and material selection. The speaker is just amazing. And what makes the looks even better is that it's functional too. The curved back and slight upward tilt disperse sound throughout the room. Performance: This speaker is impressive in the performance category. If you're worried about the volume, don't worry. I turned the volume up halfway and it rocks the room. The base is strong and clear, does not distort at high volume. The mids and highs are great too, often revealing details in songs that I've previously missed. Also, the Philips app that works with your iPhone is great for changing your equalizer settings. The only drawback: no Bluetooth. This didn't bother me as in my experience using Bluetooth can affect sound quality, especially at low frequencies. However, if you like Bluetooth, fear not. Just grab the Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter for Bluetooth Audio Devices (980-000540) and plug it into the AUX input. And now you have a great speaker with Blue Tooth connectivity. RESULT: If this docking station is in your price range, don't hesitate because you won't be disappointed.
