With a little prep, it stuck perfectly!

glued very well! The only advice I can give is to sand the surface (sandpaper), clean the surface (petroleum spirit), wipe off any excess (paper towel or similar) before applying the tape. This made it stick much better than applying it to a smooth, unprepared surface.
