Review on Shure AONIC 50 Wireless Over-Ear Noise Cancelling Headphones (White) by Chong Nahm Cho ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like the product, the quality did not disappoint.

Headphones are suitable for those who do not need noise reduction and who do not experience discomfort from their heaviness. In terms of sound and the sum of other qualities, including the price, they beat competitors of the same class. I specially tried them on first in the store, then purchased them remotely in order to be able to return them within 7 days. I realized that the head would get tired and ache from gravity, and returned it with great regret.

Pros
  • * Very good sound quality, especially for wireless headphones. The frequency response is close to flat, compared to the old "overbass" Sony MDR-XB950BT, the sound is excellent, absolutely everything is heard, very detailed and rich. * The presence of all possible codec options, works with a smartphone via LDAC and Windows 10 via aptX. It is also possible to connect via analog wire. The ability to work passively over a USB-C cable is indicated, but my Honor 20 Pro does not support this feature, I could not check it. * Very good build quality. Sturdy metal hinges, no match for Sony. Better ventilation inside the ear cushions, but at the same time everything is closed, you can wear it in the rain. Soft headband. * More or less normal button operation, except for noise reduction. * Works perfectly with two devices, no more need to manually connect the headphones to the phone to go outside. * The price is very much advantageous compared to competitors in the same class.
Cons
  • * Heavy. Even after half an hour of wearing, there is tension around the ears and in the temple area. The abundance of metal and strength have a downside. As a result, I realized that I could not wear it, I issued a refund. * Not the most convenient headband adjustment, very weakly expressed adjustment steps, you have to move very carefully every time. The extended ones do not fit in their original case, which means they have to be adjusted every time. The same problem when putting on over a winter hat. Everyone complains about the large case, I agree, it takes up too much space in the backpack. * Slightly shallower in depth ear cushions, the wife tried to wear and she is less comfortable because of the ears and dreadlocks that are more receding from the head. * Mediocre "reverse" sound insulation, people around the music is heard. Not that much, but nevertheless, it can interfere with someone. * Large buffer. This allows you to have fewer interruptions on "heavy" codecs like LDAC, but after pressing the buttons you have to wait almost a second for the pause or volume control to work. * Very strange active noise cancellation. I didn't really need it, but I wanted to check it out. It does not normally remove the sounds of cars on the street, nor the rumble of a vacuum cleaner, the sound when the function is activated is louder, but noticeably worse in quality. The pressure on the ears is palpable, but apparently we are both sensitive to this technology. But the "permeability" mode is not bad, you can talk without removing the headphones. * Very inconvenient noise reduction lever. The off position is in the middle and it is very difficult to return the switch to it, you need to dose the effort very carefully. And there is a feeling that with regular use it will all very quickly fail.
