Great class D amplifier with many features!

This is my first class D mini amp for home use. I've heard a lot of complaints about Class D amplification, and I usually listen to Class AB on my main system, so I didn't know what to expect. I've never used my computer to listen to music seriously, but I'm pleasantly surprised that the sound is attractive, clear, detailed and spacious, even on a set of very cheap 3-way speakers (8 ohms nominal/40 watts max) ! The speakers are connected with thick 12 gauge wire, can this help the sound? Despite its small size, the amp has weight, everything feels high quality. Setup was easy and intuitive. The remote control provides access to all functions including tone and volume controls. You have thought of everything! Remember to remove the plastic covers from both ends of the optical cable. The speakers sit on my desk listening at less than 3 feet, tilted up with a rubber stand, and the volume is adequate. I enjoy the preset EQ modes (Pop, Dance, etc.). In the future I plan to add a sub. My setup, streaming Tidal with optical output from my PC and playing FLAC files from my server using Windows Media Player. Because it's controlled by my computer, all Windows sound alerts accompany the music, but they can be muted or turned off. Out of curiosity I hooked up one of the SVC subwoofers from the main system, WOW! The bass solo rocks on Bella Fleck's "Flight of the Space Hippo"! The sub input on the unit seems to have a fairly high cut off frequency for low frequencies, so I set the cut off frequency to 90Hz on the SVC subwoofer. Flawless Bluetooth connection with all my devices. I'm very satisfied, didn't expect this kind of performance on my desktop with such "woofer" speakers, which makes me wonder how the best set of 4 ohm speakers would sound!

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • I'm pissed off
