avoid it This is a very old product with serious limitations. Not suitable for modern maps

I recommend avoiding this product. I was trying to install it on a four year old Dell D620 laptop. Installation failed. Reading the Sandisk forums about this product was extremely sobering. But the adapter was recognized immediately and works fine with Dell C620/C820 laptops running Windows XP SP3, which are probably twice as old. The ability to read/write your card depends on the capacity. There is no real information on the product on the Sandisk website. No drivers, no manual, nothing. In the absence of documentation, I think a working hypothesis on card compatibility should be based on the excellent previous review by Xin Dou (June 28, 2006): <quote>for MMC, SM and MS, the adapter is actually useless, - SD (up to 1GB ) - MultiMediaCard (up to 128 MB) - SmartMedia (up to 128 MB) - Memory Stick (up to 128 MB) - Memory Stick PRO (up to 1 GB) - xD-Picture Cards (up to 512 MB, without M or H) with a 128 -MB SD card and a 256MB xD card tested. Both are read/write. I then tested it with an 8GB SD card. It wasn't even recognized by the computer. I think the rule of thumb for a laptop is that if you have a bunch of small cards (less than 1GB) and your laptop is more than seven years old, or at least one review specifically lists it as compatible, you might want to give it a try. In all other cases, it is better to avoid it and find other solutions. USB readers are fairly secure and cheap, and you can easily achieve transfer speeds of 58MB/s for HC cards. Please note that many of the positive reviews were written by people who only wrote a review.
