Review on Memorex 700MB/80-Minute 52x Data CD-R Media - 50-Pack Spindle by Tom Duncan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High bounce rate, unreadable for some Plextors

What an atrocity these wheels are. I have three different CD drives:* Plextor PX-755SA (firmware 1.07)* Plextor PX-716A (firmware 1.11)* Toshiba SD-R1612 (firmware version unknown) All discs were burned on PX-755CA. A write failed (maybe just a bad disc; that happens), so I'm ruling that out from my perspective. All writes were done at 16x (sometimes I go faster, but I prefer less rereading when using discs). Of the 10 successful burns, 7 were read by the PX-755SA, 3 were not read by all drives (including the PX-755SA). Of the 7 readable discs, only ONE was readable by any drive other than the PX-755SA. Before you say "sounds like a Plextor problem", consider this: I also use a "Memorex 700MB/80-minute 48x CD-R". Media Discs (Black)” purchased from Revain. I haven't had any problems with these discs yet. However, I am convinced that these drives suffer from serious compatibility issues that are completely independent of the manufacturer. Maybe I just got a "bad batch," but the marriage percentage is totally unacceptable; it's a waste of money and a waste of time. As a person in the IT industry, I need the ability to burn a disc at an acceptable speed (16x) and ship that disc to shared storage to install the OS on the server. I don't like burning a disc and then driving for 20 minutes only to find that the medium itself has let me down. Avoid those special Memorex discs.
