Review on πŸ’§ Enhanced Water Analysis: HM Digital HydroTester Offers Unparalleled Resolution and Accuracy by Ron Long

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finally a PH meter I can rely on

If you've read any of my other reviews of the PH meters (and EC meters) I bought you know what a real one was disappointment for me. find a good one. I have purchased three other PH meters from different manufacturers and none of them have been reliably accurate and none of them, if at all, could be easily calibrated. They all cost about the same ($10-$20), worked about the same, and appeared to be built at the same factory, but were different brands and hulls. Most of them were clones. Even the instructions that came with the devices were almost identical. Reviews were mixed too, so it was pretty much a crap shoot. In the end I decided to up the ante and spend a little more money (actually more than double) hoping to finally find a model that is reliable and easy to use. . I had already bought an EC meter from HM Digital for the same reasons and it was well worth the extra money so I decided to try a PH meter from the same company. So far I've had the same positive results and have been using the meter for over two months. The counter works very similarly to other models but is clearly not made in the same factory - the instructions give a clear indication of this. It's much more detailed and actually makes sense as you walk through the steps to use or recalibrate the device. The best part is the ability to easily recalibrate the meter. This process is so easy compared to cheap devices that I calibrate it more often, which is a good thing. Other models required using three different test solutions to calibrate them, and the steps involved are as impractical as you can imagine. This device requires a calibration solution and it is recommended that you use one that is close to the range you will be measuring most often. In my case it is solution 7.0. It comes with a nice lid that allows the device to stand on end for storage. It also comes with a small amount of electrode storage solution (I didn't even know you needed it until I bought it) that you use in a cap to keep the sponge protecting the electrode moist. I have since bought a large bottle of solution from HM Digital for proper long term storage. I use this meter almost every day and I am very happy that I finally have a PH meter that I can rely on. It's easily worth the price. If you're reading this, it might be because you haven't been able to find a decent PH meter, or maybe this is your first. If you want a good, accurate PH meter that is easy to use and recalibrate, by all means don't waste your time and money on cheap models. Spend the extra money now and save yourself the frustrations I went through. I highly recommend this counter. In my opinion this is the best you can get in this price range and I have the experience to back that rating. Oh, and one last note: I think I read somewhere that this was made in Korea but assembled in the US where everyone else was. from China, but I don't know exactly. It is definitely not a clone like other cheap models. Update November 4, 2021 This is the second one I've bought. The first gave an incorrect reading after I mistakenly left it in nutrient water for a few days. I suspect it somehow messed with the sensor. I have another tester that is my main tester that I also checked so I could see if anything was wrong. Since PH is very important to me, having more than one unit is a must so you can see if there are any brewing issues that actually happened to me. Rather than buying a cheaper or more expensive model, I chose another one of these as it served me well. good for a long time when I used it as a main tester. It's not the best tester you can buy, but for the price it's very good and I have no hesitation in recommending it. Just don't leave the sensor in water or any other solution for a long time. I usually use a solution that keeps the sensor secure between uses, which I highly recommend.

Pros
  • Simultaneous temp reading
Cons
  • boring packaging
