Legs lock with cam locks. This is much better than the twist locks found on cheap tripods. The bottom of the legs have rubber tips to keep them from slipping on hard floors and they work on some floors, but I'd also like a rope holding the legs together so they don't spread out on slippery surfaces. Luckily I made my own, it's not rocket science. The legs open and close smoothly and won't twist like cheaper tripods when extended, locked or folded. A great feature that most other tripods don't have is that the center stand can be folded down to hang the camera under the tripod. This makes it more stable and protects the camera better when the tripod tips over. The center column also has a spring-loaded weight hook so you can hang anything heavy on it for maximum stability in the normal position. Love the quick release, smooth controls, little bubble level you can use to level the tripod head, etc. This is just a great tripod for cameras and smartphones with lots of thoughtful features. and it even comes with a simple spring clip to hold the phone in place, although better ones are sold separately.
