Review on Syba SD PEX40054 Port SATA Hyper by David Dugas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The simplest and most economical hybrid solution!

Need a lot of storage space, but want SSD performance at a low price? It helps. Works as advertised and pretty easy to install. I've tried using a cheap 30GB SSD as a cache drive and a 1TB HDD with satisfactory success. An added bonus is that you can increase reliability by using RAID1 or slightly improve performance by using RAID 0 on the hard drive side. You are limited to 4 shared ports. So if you use one or both external ports, you lose 1 or 2 internal ports each. This shouldn't be a problem for most. The card also works well as a direct SATA III controller and as a simple RAID card if you just want more ports or RAID 0/1. Hot-swap works great too, just make sure you unmount the drive using Windows Disk Management before erasing to avoid possible data loss/corruption. Keep in mind that since the card uses a PCIe 2x slot, you won't see full SATA III performance, up to 5Gb/s is the max, but it's still much faster and more responsive than SATA II, so it's worth it. So this is a great option if your MB doesn't support SATA III. If you insist on full 6Gb/s speeds, you'll need a card in a PCIe x8 or x16 slot, but you'll also pay more. 5 stars because this card works and works as advertised and works at a great price and without much hassle. This is a great option to achieve: 1. A hybrid solution in every system.2. Improve SATA performance on an older system.3. Add more SATA ports to any system.4. Add or expand RAID 0/1 capabilities to any system.
