I've been using this type of USB evaporative cooler for a few years now so I don't have much experience. I have 4 Artic air conditioners and decided to try this new one to see if it's better. I bought 2 to test. I've only had it a few days but they do it. A little background: I have an off-grid, all-solar small home in central Arizona. Technically, I have 1000 watts of solar potential and a 2.4 kWh battery to store electricity. That means I can power a mini-fridge and small electronics, but large power-hungry appliances like a central air conditioner are out of the question. The bottom line is that it works just as well as micro-USB powered devices. already own. They cool a small area (e.g. 2 feet ahead) when the humidity is low/dry. It works to go to bed during the day or in the evening to relieve the heat a bit. You can also install it on the table to work. When it's 100°F outside and this little device is providing a gentle breeze of around 85°F, it makes quite a big difference. It's not as good as air conditioning, but it's better than nothing and you can't beat the price and energy efficiency. It's nice that the new devices use USB Type-C and not the outdated Micro-USB. Also very nice is that these devices use an injector instead of a paper pad to vaporize water. My old devices that used paper to evaporate water smelled a bit musty when first turned on. Yes, and water consumption will be slightly higher, since the pads need to be thoroughly soaked before work. With the new units, a 16.9 ounce water bottle will keep you cool all day and there's no need to change air bags. Time will tell if there are any problems with the water injection system, but it will take a long time to judge. Overall I'd say it's a worthy upgrade. I can charge one of these devices all day long using a simple power bank with a small bottle of water. Remember they are only effective in low/dry humidity conditions like Arizona and only in a small area. If it's humid (+50%) where you plan to use it, don't expect it to do much more than blow air. There is no remote control but the front/side buttons are easy to use.
