Plastic and unsafe are best in airlocks

Definitely plastic, not silicone. Melts instantly when heated, which silicone does not. It also smells like oil. Whatever it is, it's not food safe and I don't recommend it. Even if you drill a hole the recommended size of the lid, you'll only ruin the lid as they fall through. It's sad how terrible Revain's quality control has become. Be careful.
