Review on πŸŽ™ iTalkie - Wireless Bluetooth PTT Speaker Microphone for Improved Zello PTT Communication by Byron Howell

Everything ok.: Headsets and microphones

UPDATE. I played around with it some more today and the TX sound on it is just awful. It looks like the microphone is overloaded and distorted at the same time. I tried lowering the gain to 1% but the audio is still distorted and you can hear barley. I also tried covering part of the microphone but the audio is still terrible. When I hold the mic at arm's length it's not as hot, but it still sounds very distorted. I've tried it on DVSwitch, Echolink and also its alleged Zello, all applications result in very bad TX sound. Audio reception is actually pretty decent, but that's about it. Cannot recommend for any application, will be returned. It's with network radio (IP radio), it's basically a glorified Android phone. I was able to install the daemon software and PTT pairing with no problems. I don't use this for Zello, I use an app called DVSwitch Mobile. With this software it works perfectly, it receives and transmits normally. However, I find the sound very dull, almost unusable. It seems that when you speak into the microphone at the top, your voice goes through the microphone and not towards the audio, it becomes a little clearer. The PTT itself seems as cheap as it looks in the picture. The belt clip looks pretty solid, but the clip springs are pretty flimsy. The volume buttons work, but voice messages work when they want them to. I would say that 1 out of 20 times when I press the volume button I get "Volume 8 out of 15" or something like that. It's quite long, don't know why I need to know the max volume, just tell me the current one. I don't think it's worth the device for the price. There are other PTTs with better build quality and features. The demon is the only thing that makes this device unique. It is very convenient to have software that handles "drivers" for applications. However, I'm not 100% sure it will be a steward, I'll have to keep looking to see if I can somehow clean up the transmitted audio.

Pros
  • High-quality design
Cons
  • Requires socket
