What could have possibly happened to cause him to lose it like that is beyond my comprehension. Nothing was lost on the floor. Now that I've realized it needs fixing, I'll take it in for service, and I expect to pay a hefty sum. They cited "Mechanical damage" as the cause of the repair. I didn't take it somewhere or drop it. He simply didn't want to be a part of it any longer. After a few months and two repair shops, s. was deemed "Not recoverable." due to a connector being soldered directly onto the board. The built-in firmware may have crashed and burned, which occurs frequently with Toshiba drives. Definitely not something I'd suggest to anyone. Check out comparable cases - WD.
