Z-star vs Zip vs Smartcore

I did a 3 point comparison today. Everything new. Wilson Zip, Wilson Smartcore and Srixon Z-Star. I am by no means a superhero, I have a handicap of 13. To my surprise, smartcore won. Each movement off the tee was within about 5 yards of each other. But smartcore was always the most direct. At 100 yards, the smart core stopped on contact. The zipper rolls out about 5 or 6 feet and the Z star extends 2-3 feet, 50 yards. The smart core rolls out about 10-15 feet, the same goes for the zipper. Z-star will remain in its tracks. So 50 yards in the Z-Star was the best, but knowing that the smart core will roll out a little, you can play for it. Now the weird part, maybe it's just me, but my smartcore beats have been great. I play with a light racquet and the 85 compression ball felt great. Falling behind smartcore again and again. Iron Test: The Smartcore showed a very solid feel and great sound. Zip was like a marshmallow and mostly silent. The Z-Star felt good, but it didn't have enough to break its tone. Now Durability: Both Zip and Z-Start had end-of-lap cuts. Enough that they both end up in a furry bag when I get home. Smartcore was still in great shape and ready for more. For the past few years, I've only been the Z-Star guy. But I'm starting to worry about their cost and durability. On a whim I decided to buy some cheap smartcores and zips and see if a cheap ball would work for me. I'm glad I did. At around 50 cents a ball, Smartcore is perhaps the best deal in golf.
