2. UPDATE A: Me downgraded the stars because we were getting a lot of mineral deposits that we didn't get with the original kit, but to be honest the product doesn't claim to remove minerals. I know these filters weren't specifically designed for mineral filtration, but the first kit we had worked much better than these, so I have nothing to compare them to. I will say after a few months they seem to filter out more solid minerals probably because they are saturated and to be honest I'm fine with that because I clean my kettle less often. The water still tastes GREAT! The old and new filters have always improved the taste of our water by 1000%. Hard water can have a very unpleasant taste. Also, the APEC staff recently contacted me and sent me another set of filters just because they are nice people and want me to be happy with their products. I still don't understand why the first set filtered minerals well when it shouldn't. But I love the APEC water filter on our kitchen sink. We drink this water and I often use it for cooking just to minimize the harmful residue normally found in tap water. Thank you APEC! Original rating: Only four stars because we still find a ton of mineral deposits in our kettle weeks after changing the filter. We have hard water and we know that none of our filters can completely remove mineral deposits. Although these filters greatly improve the taste of the water, the original filters that came with it filtered out the minerals much better. Yes we still had mineral build up but not to the point where we had to clean the kettle with vinegar twice a week. We used to only clean once a month. I don't know why they aren't as good as the previous set.
