I originally purchased the passive version of this product. The monitor went into sleep mode as soon as it was turned on. This only worked correctly about 10% of the time and I've tried many different avenues to try to figure out why this is happening. After reading more on the subject, I figured the problem was that my laptop's HDMI output was low on power, so I bought the active version of this adapter. I still have the same problem. Update 1/12/2019: I figured out how to get it working in my setup. I can't just turn it on and it works. First of all, everything must be turned on (laptop, adapter and monitor) and left for 2-3 minutes. At this time, the monitor is in sleep mode. I can then turn off the monitor and quickly turn it back on. So far this is the only way it always works. It's a pain, but at least it works.
