We bought a medium sized pack for our border collie mix. It has room for a regular sized bike water bottle plus a few more. I also had packaged carrots (for dogs and horses). I could add another smaller water bottle, the capacity is amazing. Think of the weight your dog can carry, we had lunch by the pond and then it occurred to me that my dog is not used to swimming with extra weight. The pond wasn't too deep but I removed the bottles so it could swim easily. The double sided zips don't seem to be of the best quality, one had a broken end on arrival which we were able to fix. Also, the zippers open a bit as you walk down the trail (we're talking a 6 hour trail ride with dogs running at will, sometimes up and down steep hills), so it's best to attach a clip to keep the things do not fall off . . Nothing seemed to rub and the packaging held in place well. Time will tell how long they last but I feel like I wasted my money on this product. This is our first dog backpack so I can't compare it to other products. We also love the reflective stripe and the orange color makes it easy to get dogs into the woods during hunting season.
