Review on πŸš— Transform Your Car's Shine with MEGUIAR'S NXT Generation Car Wash (18 oz) by Jay Ngo

Not bad, but nothing special

I got this to try based on comparisons between NXT and Gold Class on various forums. Basically, I wanted to see if I was missing anything special about this soap compared to the gold grade that's available everywhere. Is there something special about it? In a word - no. It makes the paint squeaky clean compared to Gold Grade, but this is most likely due to not adding surfactants and shine enhancers like GC does. Fragrance is a very important part of any car wash soap as it is part of the overall experience. I would describe the scent as predominantly lavender with a slight sharpness/freshness on top. It's very strong and quite pleasant, but I wouldn't say it smells that different from other dishwashing liquids or washing powders. Actually it's boring. Lubrication is below my expectations, as is the amount of foam. Gold grade creates more lather and is more slippery during washing. Added water softeners may or may not help, but as for water stains (where they seem to be most useful) - you're not going to wash your car with soapy water. Water containing NXT, so softeners in the soap are irrelevant. Hard water washing will leave stains. Maybe plasticizers were something Meguiars only made to help with marketing. Gold Class has a more unique flavor (for better or worse), darkens the finish, leaves the finish smooth rather than squeaky, creates more foam, and has more glide. As of 2015, it's also cheaper and can be bought anywhere. NXT is good, but not worth paying extra money for or trying to track down now that it's no longer distributed locally.
