The controller on my 970 Evo Plus NVME drive (directly below the overclocked RTX 3080) got very hot. The controller frequently exceeded 70 C on mixed GPU and read/write intensive tasks. Unfortunately I lost the heatsink that came with my motherboard. Low enough to fit under the GPU without touching it, this heatsink kept the controller cool during these workloads. Most users probably won't need something like this, and I imagine the heatsink that came with my motherboard would have worked just as well. However, for my particular situation, it was exactly what I needed and it worked. However, be aware that the exact thickness and placement of SSDs will vary - you may need to carefully consider/review how you place the thermal pad to ensure everything fits together the way you want it. An extra strip of heat pad would be the only improvement I could think of on this kit.
