I have a huge collection of colored pencils, both watercolor and oil or wax based. In this set I wanted to do something simple like greeting cards or other projects that I didn't want to waste my very expensive pens on. that I received this set and they were all riddled with cracks. It also comes with a sharpener. I ended up putting my pencils in a new pencil case that also has a sharpener pocket. It also came with a pad of paper to use. The size is ideal for small drawings. QUALITY OF THE PENCILS AND DRY PENCILS USED in this set are decent, but some of them didn't sharpen the wood as smoothly as I would like. However, overall performance was good and the wires didn't break. Most of the colors lay quite well on the paper without scratching or being too harsh. Multiple colors were a problem, but that often happens with ALL colored pencil sets. WORKING WITH WATER ON PAPER This set also included a paper notebook. I made a test pattern using literally almost every pen except the brown ones on this paper. Then I slowly added water to the paper to see what happened. I posted a photo with this review of this painting. The colors are bright and the pigment dissolves very well. I was very impressed. TIN CONTAINER / BOX I am not happy with the tin trays they came in. They are too fragile and the pens ended up everywhere during shipping and were not secured in the shells like other pens. CONCLUSION This is a great set. The colors are bright, the paper that comes with it is of good quality, the sharpener is a good addition. I don't like tin trays as they are too fragile. This set would have been better if it came in a zipped case which is where I carried it or with sturdier trays. MY RATING IS FOUR STARS. I love it and will use it, but I like it better in a zip case. The quality of the pens is good and this is a great starter set for artists, crafters, those who enjoy using coloring books (which can work with water) and crafters.
