I have a friend who swears these biomass stoves are the best alternative to gas or open fire so I decided to give it a try. I myself am a fan of open fire / tripod / smoldering bed. I just did a backyard field test and have mixed feelings. As a stove I give 5 stars. It's durable, easy to install, and the mouth is big enough to fill with whatever fuel you might have. Using a lighter and kindling, it took me about 3 minutes (2 tries) to get the fire started and another 15 minutes to cook and cook the ramen. One thing that would make it better would be to mount the rocket furnace shaft so you don't have to feed it as much. It is worth noting that this stove has its drawbacks. I had to kneel down several times to breathe life into the fire. If you want to feed the other side of your fire, away from your mouth, you're a little salty, and of course that's quite a messy cleanup. Therefore I award 3 stars. If you don't mind shelling out the extra cash and carrying it around, stick with gas. In general, I'm happy with it and put it in my pocket, but only for the prohibitions on open fire and leaving camping marks.
