This cable tester is ideal for answering the question: In which room did this line end up again? It also provides fast and accurate wire diagnostics to identify which of the 8 wires in the cable has the problem. For these two tasks alone, this cable tester is very inexpensive and no problem for large cabling jobs. and provides basic diagnostics in no time at all. This eliminates the need to whip out an expensive, complicated analyzer for many basic network problems. I used it to troubleshoot 3 network cables in our house, they lost their tags and wouldn't connect, I plugged 3 receivers into the cables in question, then went to 3 outlets, plugged them in and the problem was fixed immediately. It told me which end had a problem for each cable with length measurement and which wires had a problem. Easy! The reason I give it 4 stars is that the length measurement function is not very accurate. Accurate enough to solve the problem, but not accurate enough to provide a consistent, reliable measurement across multiple cables. And while the tester has calibration, it's inconvenient to use. For example, the tester can be switched to foot, great, but if it turns off, which often happens when testing, it forgets the foot setting and reverts to meter. It has 3 calibration settings, great, but turning it off erases which calibration was in use and doesn't show which calibration is active. When I connected it to a known 100ft cable it gave me a reading of 169ft which I also know is 49.5m since it disconnected and came back. After all, this is a great basic tester. This makes it easy to test multiple wires at once and quickly solve many problems with it, and I highly recommend it for that purpose. But if you want accurate and fast cable length measurements, then this isn't the best tester and you should keep looking.
