First of all, a strong rating of 3.5. I rounded up instead of because I like the result. But this thing is NOT for kids: the instructions are terrible and the small parts are very fragile. If you've already done a lot of these things (I've done them), you'll be able to bypass what they gave you and make yourself a neat little gem. Here are some of the problems I've encountered: - connectors break during assembly - tabs are too big to fit properly in the allocated holes - instructions for lighting and battery pack are so vague they might not even exist - LED -Lamps are connected incorrectly so they don't burn. All in all I still give it 4 stars. And I'm going to tell you how to bypass all of these things! 1) The small parts of the connector that I broke turned out to be unnecessary because the other parts held everything in place. If needed, a small drop of wood glue can bring broken pieces together, but in this case it wasn't necessary (I didn't have to use any glue for repairs or assembly in this project at all) 2) Tabs are too big to fit properly Puzzles like this one. Some of the better kits come with a small wax stick to help put them together. It didn't help, but you can get the same result with a candle and a cotton swab. If it still doesn't fit, do a few passes of sandpaper and it will be fine - just don't sand too much or you'll still need glue because the fit needs to be snug. 3) Insert 2 AA batteries. Position it in a black case so that the switch goes through the hole under the 'shelf' and the wires go through the 'door' built in Step B. CHECK THEM FIRST (see solution 4) 4) Loose/disconnected LED wires - horror story for any miniature builder, I'm having a hard time with this. I was glad they connected the LEDs to the battery leads for me and then was dismayed to realize that they screwed it up too and both lights kept shorting out. You can reinforce the connection between the LED and the wire with some tape or just attach it where the wires connect and the light stays on. I did this with only one of the bulbs and therefore only one of them is lit. I suppose I could have taken it apart and attached the other light better, but the assembly was too complicated to do twice. Conclusion: It was NOT fun to build and the instructions were terrible. However, I finally managed to put it together and it's the cutest thing I've ever seen in one of these wooden puzzle sets! Don't give this to a child unless the child is an experienced fashion designer who knows what to do when things go wrong. Otherwise assemble it yourself and show the children.
