Review on 🧡 Dritz 896 Heavy Duty Single Cone Thread Holder by Doris Tran

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good tool but poor workmanship

First I chose the Dritz 896 because it looked sturdy and the main shaft is one piece. Other similar items have a shaft that consists of two parts that connect and are very weak. It's a really good solid strong tool and it's heavy enough to work with the big 5700 yard V69 cones I use. My rating is based on the poor quality of the bar chrome plating. The plating on what I received was quite rough in places and it looks like the bar was shaped after the plating because the inside of the curves had chipped off. This made the area where the filament runs very rough and abrasive. It is not good to wash the thread before it goes into the machine. I was going to send it back and ask for a replacement, but instead decided to polish it with 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. This worked, but left a copper colored area as it was actually removing the top coat. Still good value for money, but be aware that you might have to clean it up a bit and live with the fact that it's not shiny chrome.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No power
