This works better than the $100 food grinder I bought from William Sonoma. I steamed my potatoes cut into 1.5 x 1.5 inch chunks. Keep in mind that you will need some force to push the potatoes through when you have them this size. It gets tiring when you have a lot of them, a masher might be the best choice if you have a lot of mouths to feed. I really wish they had a different strainer head with smaller holes, mainly because I got this device to try to emulate Joel Robuchon's Michelin star mashed potatoes, but you still have to run it through a regular strainer. I have 1 complaint about the design. Inside the device there is a metal ring that holds the parts of the sieve. Between this ring and the body of the device, when you press down on the potato, mashed potatoes are gradually pushed between these two parts. This makes it difficult to separate the parts for cleaning when you're done. Other than that, overall it does the job and I'll probably leave it.
