First off, this is a lightweight, sturdy tripod with intuitive features that changed the way I use tripods. It holds 500c with Sonnar 150mm (front heavy) with no slip issues. Also set up a Nikon d800 with an Otis 28mm lens (no tripod mount on the lens) and get no motion. Same goes for the Nikon 70-200 (which has a tripod ring so is more balanced but still not too much for this tripod. The tripod mounting plate is a rectangle with a mounting screw channel running the length of the rectangle, ideal for Front-heavy or 4x5 mounting kits where you need easy access to the back of the camera, my last tripod didn't allow me to easily remove 6x9 back sheeting with a Linhof Technica 2x3 (with frosted glass for focusing). Controlling the movement of the tripod The head is simple and efficient very well made and accurate overall the head is quite well made strong yet light weight also has two built in 90 degree slots molded into the head joint for portrait or macro photography what attracted me was the the lack of a fixed center column to make the setup lighter/smaller and more stable, as well as help with macro photography or other unreliable In situations like this, the center column was used on the outside right out of the box. This is also made of carbon and makes a robust impression and fits in the bag supplied. The legs have four positions within a 90 degree range, allowing the legs to be fully open or folded for multi-stop storage. The leg lock/unlock handles are great, very intuitive and lock without a second time. The case is soft, fairly well made and will last, the case contains the speaker and the tools/parts that came with it, I keep my release cable in my tripod bag. There is no other place than what is good. I have a feeling this will be a big size for some considering a travel/climbing tripod. I'll be taking the smaller version for backcountry work, but I'm happy to be using this for now. At least half the weight of anything I've had in the past and always having it in my bag makes it easy to grab and grab. I'm also quite tall, so it's still a short, pillarless tripod, which is something to consider. If you want your camera at eye level and you're over 6 feet tall, you'll need a center column to get there. I typically use this when shooting on film cameras with trash level viewfinders, so it's not a problem for me.
