Review on Garmin GPSMAP Waterproof Marine Chartplotter by Richard Jarvis

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not waterproof and inconvenient for coastal navigation.

The device is not waterproof. Bought for a kayak trip. Normal drops on the device will cause the inside of the display to fog up when exposed to sunlight. In addition, all point-to-point navigation is done in a straight line. Although marketed for sea navigation, it will take you to land if that is the most direct route. Suppose you are traveling from one side of the peninsula to the other. It will not approximate the distance as a water route around the earth, but will simply cross the earth directly. Ground GPS devices record the route along the roads. Imagine if they didn't and instead just showed you a straight line from your location to your destination. How useful would it be?

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Not bad
