Review on ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ WESCO 11000RPM Dual Position Auxiliary Grinder by Victor Olsen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well, it's uncomfortable.

I personally have 2 or 3 other angle grinders in the 4" to 5" range plus a large 9" Milwaukee grinder. But as a professional machinist, the most I use is the DeWalt grinder with a paddle switch that you press when holding the grinder. Well, I took this grinder out of the box and looked at the power switch. Can't believe another reviewer said it was easy to turn on and hard to turn off. I found it the exact opposite. It requires an odd and awkward "swipe" action to engage, but barely touching the back quarter of the switch button it immediately pops off under its own spring force. To be honest I was wondering if this switch would stay on with normal vibration as it gets a bit of use and wear. To be honest I don't like the switch. After getting used to the switch, I mounted the wheel on the coffee grinder and connected it to the mains. Don't you know I left the switch on? job title! The entire breaker immediately jumped out of my unsuspecting hand and fell about 3 feet to the concrete floor. The brand new circle shattered on impact, thankfully sacrificing itself to protect the rest of the grinder. And sure enough, that damn switch went off with a little vibration, just like I thought it would. But since the wheel was spinning when it hit the ground, both it and the nut were incredibly tightly bolted to the shaft. I literally bent the wrench that came with it, but it didn't come loose. Eventually I clamped the hard part of the broken wheel tightly in the milling machine's vise and was able to use the body of the grinding machine itself as a large handle to loosen the nut. After adjusting another wheel, the grinder will work normally. It was quite a test for the gear, shaft lock knob, output shaft, metal gear case etc and no damage appeared to have occurred. This was also a control test for the wrench, but we won't talk about that. I'm loving the paddle shifter idea more and more.

Pros
