I recommend this for any drain pump. We bought this to complement our drain pump after buying our house with a drain pump already installed. Since we didn't know anything about the history of the drain pump (the house was foreclosed on), we wanted to know that if the pump failed, we would be warned. We have a battery backed up pump so in the event of a power surge we are not alerted for every small power surge, only when there is no power for more than 15 minutes. We've had it for 2.5 years now and we've only been warned a couple of times. And only when we had power outages at home (except once). And there are very few power outages during a storm. We recently had a severe thunderstorm at home while on holiday which resulted in a 2 hour power outage. We had no idea what had happened until we received email alerts and phone text messages that the pump had failed. rejection. Once power was restored we again received a notification that the pump was running. It was nice to know that our sump pump was running while we were away and we returned home to a dry basement. Not only did this warn us of a power outage at the pump, it also indicated that there was a power outage throughout the house so we weren't surprised when we got home. Even if you don't have a drain pump, this is a great thing if you have an area where the water level is bothering you.
