Revainrating 4 out of 5

Kept my stereo in my home theater

I bought this to hook up an old Sony TT direct drive to a cheap bookshelf in our bedroom. My friend wanted to ditch the big component system to save space, but after looking at suitcase players and seeing how unreliable they seem to be, I didn't want to downgrade *that much*. I've also been hesitant to invest too much in connecting to our bookcase system as it probably won't last long for this world either. I took a chance on this little preamp because the reviews were good and the price couldn't be beat. I was admittedly expecting a too good to be true case, but even with a cheap bookshelf system there is no hiss or hum. I also added two additional speakers at the same time, but tested the preamp first with the system's weak native speakers; The sound was more than decent, so I'm impressed. My only "complaint" is that on older bare wire systems, the bottom has a flat washer rather than a notched washer. This is a minor gripe, but since you're probably using a preamp because you're connecting a vintage component, it would be nice to be able to connect that component straight away. The RCA connectors are also a little close to the top case overhang, so shorter connectors can interfere with a tighter fit, as is the case with my particular unit (which my dad bought for reference circa 1977). Again, a small note, but worth considering depending on your specific needs. In general, while we are very satisfied with the performance.
