We ordered a size 10 for my 7 year old son. He's a bit tall, so let's make his shirts bigger. However, the size 10 was too tight for him and we swapped it for a size 12 with no problem. Size 12 fits well (for now) and we can wear a different shirt underneath when he outgrows it. I would increase the size if your kid is not a green bean. However, if your child is small, they may be sensitive to the increased length that comes with larger size.
