For the chemically sensitive it gives off a terrible porcelain smell. I've read a lot of reviews here and on the Oransi website and thought it didn't smell like what others said it was metal, but that's not true. As soon as the box was opened, the smell was overwhelming. I had to put on a carbon filter respirator and could still smell it through the mask. Upon opening the box there is a tear paper at the top stating that you must remove the plastic from the charcoal filter that is already in the unit before you can light it. I opened the box upside down but luckily read the instructions in the manual to be sure. There should be a sticker on the device itself that can easily be missed in the box. I run it at 5 to get rid of the fumes from the paint and new carpet. I will report if and how well it works. It's basically a metal box with a fan and a Hepa Merv-17 filter in front of it and then a 1 inch flat carbon filter in front of it. From that point of view it is not worth its material price at all and looks cheap. For nearly $1,000, this thing should have at least Wi-Fi connectivity, a remote control, and no smell at all. UPDATE: Walked 3 days and got into the apartment with ZERO difference in color and 900sqm carpet smells. Advertised to cover up to 1500m². ft. This device does not do what is advertised for absorbing gases. A gentle sweet smell was added to the already intense smell of paint and carpet. It won't do anything with road emissions unless it makes a dent in the paintwork. Send back.
