This type of instant read thermometer is the best I have ever used. It really is an 'instant read', while some claim it isn't. It also has the added (and quite useful) bonus that you can adjust it for the meat you're testing, so you don't have to keep up with different cooking rates (I don't remember all of that, lol). It's ridiculously easy to use and can be understood in seconds without a manual. Nothing special, even with additional features. Straight ahead. There's even a button that brings up the temperature for the visually impaired. I had the exact same one but my father lost it. Luckily I managed to find this one. What didn't bother me was that the other one had batteries and this one didn't. AAA by the way. The functionality of the thermometer does not bother me. Just make sure you have something on hand if you plan to go with it. All in all I only have good things to say about him. Highly recommended. Fantastic price too.
